If Wishes Were Horses

Nazi soldiers confined 33,000 Jews in the Radom ghetto between March and April 1941. By the time the ghetto was fully liquidated in July 1944, its inhabitants had either died of starvation or disease or had been deported to Treblinka or Auschwitz. Only a few hundred Jews from Radom survived the war. This photograph, taken circa 1935, bears the inscription, “This is Rifkale’s little girl.”
